CERAMICS

In the summer of 2015, as I was working through the edits on my first book, Popular Music, I felt the overwhelming urge to make something with my hands. I joined Dina No’s community ceramics space, Hey Studio, and quickly rekindled a pottery practice I’d first learned in high school. When Jay and I moved to Humboldt County in 2016 I continued this practice at the Fire Arts Center in Arcata, Ca. There in our rented house on Sunset Ave we started Omo Studio—a slow, collaborative craft studio comprised of my stoneware ceramics, Jay’s woodwork and paintings, and various other joint projects.

Omo Studio is now my full-time job. I make functional wheel-thrown ceramics in our backyard studio in Missoula, Montana, and fire them using the gas reduction and anagama kilns at the Clay Studio of Missoula, a community nonprofit ceramic arts space. I sell my work to shops and galleries across the country, and directly from our website, which grants me space and support for writing and other creative projects. I like to make useful wares designed for everyday rituals and special occasions; as well as woven or beaded wall pieces and sculptures. Custom requests, wholesale inquiries, show or workshop proposals, and friendly hellos are always welcome. Updated work is available to purchase at omo.studio.
